Mama Ming came to SPS from an animal shelter in Ohio, and arrived at her foster home in Wisconsin on 12/08/2018.  She arrived just in time to give birth to her puppies a few days later on 12/12/2018. Mama was not in good health when she arrived, but won over the hearts of everyone she met. She gave birth to four boys and one girl. Mama ended up needing a c-section, and the puppies needed to be hand fed for the first few days. She also needed to go to the ER for labored breathing, and ended up having pneumonia while caring for her puppies. We are heart broken with how things have progressed, but provided all the care and love we could during their short time with us.

Below are the updates from Facebook:

Update 01-06-2019: We want to take the time to thank all the wonderful guardian angels that donated towards Mama Ming and her puppies. Our vet bills came to a little over $6000 and that was with discounts. Donations came to well over half of that total, so we are very humbled by the generosity!! Mama Ming as we know was very sick. It was originally estimated that she was 3-4 years old, but after she passed away it was determined she 10+ years old and has had numerous litters. She died from aspiration pneumonia, but also had a pyrometra and was infected with CHV (canine herpes virus). Unfortunately this is what she passed on to the puppies that caused them all to pass away from fading puppy syndrome.

Update 12:00pm 12-23-18: And in the end, all the love in the world could not save you, Lil Mama. Now you can reunite with Mama Ming and your brothers at the Rainbow Bridge.🌈 You fought one hell of a fight and gave us hope. Thank you for 10 days of puppy magic!!!🌈RIP Mama Ming, Jack Jack, Kenny, Karl, Batman, and Lil Mama.

Update 12:00pm 12-21-18: We were hoping this threesome would make it through the night. They did, but Karl decided he could no longer battle and passed around 8:15am. We helped Batman over the Bridge when he began to really struggle with his breathing. Little Mama was not clinical, so everything we are doing for her is prophylactic. Hopefully, she is strong enough to continue on. She weighed 21oz. this morning.

Update 8pm 12-20-18: Kenny is with Mama Ming and Jack Jack at the Rainbow Bridge. He had been struggling, and just wasn’t strong enough to overcome his medical issues. He was such a little character and we know he was loved by so many. Run free, Kenny.

So the Peibies are back in the incubator at VCA Pahle Animal Hospital. Thank you to Dr. Stephanie Brosky and Laura Pethke for their expert care. Everyone is on antibiotics at this time and oxygen is also on. We hope to have Mama Ming’s histopath results back soon to see if something was passed to the pups. Little Mama is the strongest and the best eater. Karl is congested, as is Batman. Everyone has gained weight. Karl is the noisiest…think No-No Norman and Norma loud. That boy has an opinion! Little Mama can scream it out as well. Thank you to everyone for your support and well wishes. These Peibies have no idea how loved they are!!

Update 9pm 12.18.18:  It is with a heavy heart that we make this post. Mama Ming crossed the Rainbow Bridge this afternoon. Her lungs just gave out. So many unknowns: where was she from, how old was she, how many litters did she have, etc…what we do know is that she was loved by her foster family who she entrusted with her peibies. Thank you to VCA Pahle and VCA MECA for all their care of Mama and the peibies. Thank you to everyone who has shared their words of encouragement and followed Mama’s story for the past week. And a big thank you to everyone who donated towards Mama’s medical costs. Because of her sweet demeanor, SPS decided to take a chance on her. Mama and her deceased pup, Jack Jack, will be cremated together. Run free Mama. Run free with Jack Jack and all the other Peis that have left this world way too soon. Thank you, Mama Ming, for your kisses and for just being you!!!

Update 12pm 12.17.18: Mama Ming looked a little more perky when we visited her at lunch. When we visited tonight though…PCV is on the rise but so is her WBC count. She will have another ultrasound tonight to try and clarify what is going on in her belly. No improvement with her lungs. Also, one of the pups failed to thrive, and despite our efforts we had to say goodbye to him.

Update 12pm 12.16.18: her condition is still critical. Complications from surgery and the pneumonia. It is a wait and see situation.

Update 6pm 12.15.18: Mama has Aspiration Pneumonia. She also has a suspected kidney mass. A second antibiotic has been added. Pups are home with Foster Mom and will be hand-fed from now on. Still receiving oxygen. We are praying she has an uneventful night.

Update 11am 12.15.18: Mama is still at the ER. We are waiting on a definitive diagnosis from the X-ray Specialist. She is currently receiving Oxygen and is on IV antibiotics. She has a suspicious mass in her abdomen. We are hoping she does not need more surgery. She is exhausted and needs to rest but still wants to nurse. The pups are in an incubator and are being hand-fed so Mama can rest.
