Hard-to-buy-for friend?
Shar Pei Savers is currently having a fundraiser featuring the beautiful pieces of George Carruth! These wonderful items make great Christmas gifts and provide much needed funds for our pups! Check out the details here: http://sharpeisavers.com/carruth.htm
Why are we always fundraising, you ask?Good question! Our adoption fee is only $250 and has remained the same for the past 3 years. Because there are so many backyard breeders and puppy mills out there selling Shar Pei for so cheap, we need to remain keep our adoption fees low otherwise we wouldn’t be able to adopt out our rescue dogs. Did you know that we spend around $400 - $500 PER DOG to make him/her healthy and adoptable? We do extensive vetting to make sure that our rescue dogs are taken care of: spays/neuters, dental cleanings, pre-op blood work, microchips, fecal tests, vaccinations … and anything/everything that is needed. Our mission is to never have to say “no” to Shar Pei in need because their vet care is going to be expensive.

Did you know that Shar Pei Savers doesn’t have any paid staff?
Some people think that we’re all paid to do what we do … that couldn’t be further from the truth. We are all non-paid volunteers and do what we do because we genuinely love this breed. Most of our volunteers work full-time jobs, have families, and several pets of their own in addition to all of the volunteer work they do for SPS. The “payment” we receive is seeing sick, neglected Shar Pei become healthy, vibrant dogs and go to loving, forever homes. In case you haven’t visited our Happy Endings site lately, you can see how rewarding it is for our pups to end up in such good homes (http://www.sharpeisavers.com/happyendings.htm ). Why not become a volunteer today? If you are located in Ohio, Michigan, or Wisconsin, we could definitely use your help as a Shar Pei foster home. If you are outside of the area and can help with fundraising, PR, graphic design, or something else, please visit our website for information on volunteering.
Why should pets be spayed/neutered?
Altering pets helps prevent the unwanted birth of animals that would be difficult to place into good homes. Sadly, each year more than 15 million dogs and cats are killed because of overpopulation. If your pets aren't already spayed and neutered, please consider making an appointment with your vet today. In addition to helping curb overpopulation, altering has other known advantages: spaying/neutering reduces the incidence of sex-hormone related diseases; neutered male dogs are less likely to roam, mark territory, and display aggression toward other dogs; neutered dogs have fewer prostrate problems, tumors around the anus, and decreased urine odor; and spayed females have fewer reproductive tract disease problems and are less likely to develop mammary cancer.
