Please help Mamie and Bruiser!

BRUISER'S STORY
Due to his severe neglect, Bruiser will never see again. He's only a 9-month old puppy who was rescued from a back yard breeder in Michigan. One of his eyes is oversized from untreated glaucoma and the eye will need to be removed. The other eye needs entropion surgery and is blind, too, but we are hoping the eye can be saved. In spite of what he's been through, Bruiser's tail never stops wagging. We expect Buiser's veterinary care to be over $1000. If you can help this sweet puppy, please click here to help Bruiser. Please, please,
please, even $5 or $10 will go a long way
to help this sweet puppy!

11/23/05 Update: Bruiser has had both of his eye surgeries and is ready to be adopted. We would love for him to go to a loving forever home soon. He had his left eye removed - doesn't it look like he's winking? His right eye had entropion surgery. He's still blind in both eyes, but he does really well in spite of that. Bruiser was a bumble bee
for Halloween - wasn't he precious?!

MAMIE'S STORY
October 18, 2005 Update: Mamie has been adopted by her foster parents, Kevin and Judy Wale of Midland, MI. Judy writes "Even though Mamie is such a sick little girl, she's not giving up on having a happy, fun loving life. Mamie is a little instigator ... steals Martin's toy to get him to play with her and lays in wait to jump on Elle. In general, she just LOVES to play, of course all that activity takes its toll, and she's out for a long nap then. Mamie is scheduled to have acupuncture done in 10 days, after the vet comes back from another seminar. She hopes to make breathing easier for Mamie. Thank you to all Mamie's guadian angels and those who have said prayers for her. Mamie's Mom, Judy"

September 29 Update: Mamie's foster mom, Judy Wale writes: "Mamie's echocardiagram showed she has Tetralogy of Fallot (w/ pulmonic artery narrowing, communication between 2 cardiac chambers and an abnormal position of the aorta), aortic stenosis, VSD (ventrical septal defect), AND a primary lung disease not secondary to the cardiac condition. Her prognosis w/o surgery is very, very guarded at best ... w/ surgery very, very guarded at best. They won't say if surgery will help, harm or kill her; they are making no estimates. Her leg will never be functionable ... choices are amputation, fusion so she carries it and could balance on it, or try to make it better by breaking her patealla free, realigning it, breaking the shin bone, straighteneing it, but it could be too short, non usable etc. The leg is an ongoing worsening thing ... could have been a simple correct way back when. Her heart is congenital and should have also been fixed way back when ... the vets are amazed she has lived this long. She is on antibiotics for 2 wks for her lungs, then they want our vet to do a new chest x-ray and see if they are getting any better. If yes, continue on meds, if not, they want to do a lavage of her lungs as diagnostic and possible clearing of."

September 28 Update: Mamie has had a bad case of kennel cough so she wasn't able to go to MSU for her cardiac evaluation. We'll post more when she's able to have her evaluation done. Please keep Mamie in your thoughts and prayers; she tires easily because her heart isn't working right.

Mamie was rescued from a high-kill shelter in Michigan. During her vet visit to Dr. Tim, a Grade III heart murmur was discovered and an EKG was done. The results show that she has Pulmonic Stenosis, a serious congenital heart defect. Mamie will be going to MSU on Thursday, September 22 for a thorough cardiac evaluation. SPS has spent over $500 on Mamie's care already and much more is anticipated. If you can help Mamie, please click click here to help her. Please check back for pictures & updates on Mamie.

Even $5 or $10 would go a long way in helping both of these dogs. Shar Pei Savers (and Mamie & Bruiser, too) would be so grateful for your help!

Please pray hard for both of these dogs that they can be made well and live long, healthy, and happy lives.
