Dottie's Story
Dottie was adopted by her foster mom, Erika Loos of Evansville, WI. Dottie joins a Shar Pei brother, Tux, and has thrived after being fed a raw diet - both dogs couldn't be healthier. Special thanks to Stacey and Jerry Moore of Gahanna, OH for saving Dottie's life.
Bonnie and Chester's Story
Chester (left) and Bonnie (black dog, right) were both adopted by Donna Sharp and Peter Arndt of Farmington Hills, MI. Chester and Bonnie (now Velvet) were rescued from the same shelter and we suspect they had been together for most of their lives. When Peter and Donna adopted Chester, they saw how much Velvet and Chester loved each other so they adopted Velvet, too. Velvet is very devoted to Chester and is never more than a few steps away, so it wonderful the two of them could stay together. Special thanks to Art and Judy Delusky of Detroit, MI for fostering both Chester and Velvet.
LiLu and Romeo's Story
LiLu and Romeo were both adopted by their foster parents, Cory and Cara Kapczynski of Madison, WI. Lilu was very happy to get a Shar Pei brother, Romeo, and fell head over heels in love with him immediately. After LiLu was adopted, Cara wrote: "LiLu is my pride and joy. Lilu (originally Penny) was the last of the puppy mill dogs to get adopted and she was the most shy. My husband Cory and I were shocked to see how fearful she was of people. When we first got her she would just sit in her crate and shake. At the time we were also fostering Nemo (who now lives on a farm in Medford with an 8 yr old boy to play with) and I don't think she would have come into our house if Nemo didn't first. It became clear by this that Lilu was well socialised with other dogs, but knew very little about people and living in a house. I could go on and on, but what it comes down to is that Lilu progresses in leaps and bounds everyday that we have her. She has now learned what treats are and how nice it is to sleep on the couch. Lilu now plays with toys by herself at first, but now with us too. The most recent and greatest acievment is that she has learned to "sit". As she was not very motivated by food, nor was she teribly interested in pleasing us, so Cory and I were at a loss as to how to teach her basic comands. Pushing her butt down just scared her as did pulling up on her coler. Pushing food toward her nose just confused her and she would back away. In a last ditch attempt we would praise her and give her a treat everytime she sat naturally, and it seems to be working. She will now sit for a treat!!!" Special thanks to Julia Breitzman, Randi Ivey, Mary Hanovich, Sara Gilson, Jason Arbuckle, Paula Burkholder, and all of the other Mani's Miracle Workers who helped save LiLu from a puppy mill in northern WI.
