Bear's Story

Bear, formerly Rossi, was one of six puppies that was rescued
when Sassy and Missy were picked up from a backyard breeder
who was going to take them to a shelter. Bear is already 39
pounds, described as a "well-behaved gentleman"
and has a happy home with Greg and Sharon and dog sister Katie.
Polly's Story
Polly was found running in the woods with her three week
old pups. Luckily, the shelter in Michigan who found her called
Shar Pei Savers and we took her and two of her puppies who
hadn't been adopted. Now, she's in a happy family with Mike,
Maggie, Jennifer, and dog brother Max and cat brother Dexter
in Grand Rapids, Michigan.
Lexie's Story
Lexie, formerly Greta, was one of a litter of nine peibrador
puppies (even though she looks like a rottweiller!) that ended
up in the loving arms of a Shar Pei Savers volunteer. Here's
what her new family, Jennifer and Brian, had to say about
her: "She warmed up to us so nicely. She enjoys being
in her crate a lot with a comfy bed inside. She has a new
favorite squeak toy and also loves the Nylabones you suggested.
At night we had her in the cage right next to us and she slept
for 7 hours...no whining. Thanks for the wonderful new member
of our family."
Wallflower's Story
Wallflower went from a litter of nine unwanted peibrador
puppies to the loving arms of Heidi and big brother and fellow
peibrador Wilbur. Wilber enjoys his little sister and Wallflower
is having the time of her young life!
Isabelle's Story

Isabelle, formerly Rosie, was one of six puppies that was
rescued when Sassy and Missy were picked up from a backyard
breeder who was going to take them to a shelter. Jenny and
Ethan, from Bowling Green, brought little Isabelle home for
good! We're told she is a very good girl and gets along great
with her dog-brother, Riley. She is already over 20 pounds!
Sydney's Story

Sydney, originally Helga von Smelga, was one of two litters
of 3 week old shar pei mix puppies. Sydney was one of Missy's
pups. She is now a happy pup at home with college student
Sara, above, and the rest of her family.
Maddie's Story
Maddie was dumped at a shelter because her family "didn't
have enough time" for her, though for such a low-maintenance
dog, we don't know how that's possible. The shelter staff
couldn't say enough nice things about this five year old and
were very happy to help get her into rescue. Maddie was all
they said she was and more: housebroken, cratetrained, good
on a leash, good with children and other dogs, friendly, and
adaptable. She'd had ear infections her entire life and most
of them probably went untreated - a course of strong antibiotics
fixed the immediate problem, and a regular regimen of ear
cleaning is all it will take to make sure she doesn't have
another one. Maddie was declared by everyone who met her to
be the sweetest dog they'd ever met and was quickly adopted
by the Sonnenberg family in Ottowa, OH (in the photo above,
with mom, dad, kids, and Winston the shar pei).
Willow's Story

Willow was the second of the "Dayton Four" to find her forever
home. Four Shar Pei were found in rural Dayton chained to
a tree, heartworm positive, and at risk of becoming blind
from untreated entropion. Shar Pei Savers came to the rescue
and raised the funds needed so that all all 4 dogs were spayed/neutered,
had life-saving heartworm treatments and also received entropion
surgeries, vaccinations and microchips. Willow was nursed
back to health by her foster mom, Nicole, who is pictured
above. With superior care, Willow was ready for her forever
home. Willow was adopted 10/18/03 by Ryan of Mackinac Island,
MI. Willow is very loved and spoiled already by her new daddy.
Special thanks to the Guardian Angels of the Dayton Four:
Marty & Sherry Motto (Livonia, MI), Rita Curlett (Memphis,
MI), Jennifer Prestil (Janesville, WI), Betsy Michels (Saukville,
WI), Rob Jensen (Seattle, WI) and Anna Modla (Detroit, MI).
Wilson's Story

Wilson was dumped in a high-kill shelter in Michigan. We suspect
it was because of his heart murmur. Upon seeing Dr. Riepe,
the Cardiologist from Oakland Veterinary Referral Service,
it was determined that Wilson's heart murmur was due to Ventricular
Septal Defect (VSD), which is a birth defect. It means there
is a hole in the wall between the right and left lobes of
the heart that shouldn't be there. Fortunately, Dr. Riepe
said the hole is small and should not effect Wilson's ability
to live a long, healthy life. We are so grateful for Dr. Riepe's
expertise and thorough diagnosis. Wilson was adopted by the
Jakstys family of Rochester, MI. Special thanks to Wilson's
Guardian Angels: Tim Akers & Kathryne O'Grady (Clinton Twp.,
MI), Rosemary & Earl Taylor (Warren, MI) and Joseph Urdzela
(Oxford, MI).
Nellie's Story

Nellie is a 10 month old pei/retreiver mix who spent several
weeks running loose in a cornfield before being caught and
taken to the animal shelter. When she was rescued she was
so scared and insecure she would "army crawl" instead of walking
upright. After some medical attention and TLC she was happy
and healthy and ready for a new home. At her very first adopt-a-thon
appearance she was noticed by the Goodman family of Dublin,
OH. A quick phone call brought dad down to approve the choice
and it was love at first sight for all! Nellie is now living
life as an indoor family companion and soaking up all the
wonderful attention 3 children can shower on her! Thanks to
the Goodman's for opening their hearts and home to Nellie.
Thanks to Rob and Sharon Blaydes for fostering Nellie
and thanks to the Harcourt Veterinary Clinic for providing
Nellie's medical care.
